Personality

Character Traits: Blaze is the kind of person you would expect to have an attitude. She uses sarcasm at a daily basis, and even swears. She's hardworking, courageous, and confident. Often the first to volunteer or be first for a task, Blaze is fearless of mostly everything. There are only a few things that would scare her. This fearlessness would also make her rash and impulsive, which causes much trouble. Her stubbornness often makes her hard to work with, and her arrogance lets her think she has any situation under control. Blaze is also observant and patient, and has a quick eye to catch things on. Optimistic, loyal, and playful, Blaze is the one to go to for some wild encouragement.

Background:

Blaze Sera Kingsley was born on March 30, 1998, in a taxi in Atlanta, Georgia. Her mother was a tad bit late to the hospital, resulting in her giving birth in the taxi right before they arrived at the hospital.
Leah Kingsley was an engineer and had her own business for fixing cars and bikes. Her beauty and skills attracted the god Hephaestus, who at that time had some business to attend in the capital of Georgia. Leah is a woman who cared nothing for appearance and instead judged people by who they are. When she met Hephaestus, she fell in love with his kind heart and gentle hands. They dated for several months, and when Hephaestus learned that Leah was pregnant, he was saddened to leave her. He left her a note with a reason why he left (it said that he had an important trip to go on and might not come back), much to Leah's despair.
As Blaze grew up, she learned that the subject of her father was very emotional for her mother. Her mother also let her help out in the shop and fix machines. Her mother was also very open to the world, and Blaze grew up knowing about gender and orientations, and racism and sexism.
Knowing this, at a young age, Blaze was convinced that she was actually a boy, despite her biological gender, and as her mother was very accepting, she went along with it, cutting Blaze's hair, buying her boy clothing, even using masculine pronouns. This often had problems when she/he went to school or out in public with her/his mother.
This lasted until the age of seven, Blaze realized that she was more than just a boy in a female body. She decided that she was both of them combined. She realized that she still had some views in a feminine way, while also in a masculine way. She confessed this to her mother, and Leah told her that she is genderqueer/genderfluid. Blaze was happy about this, and wasn't afraid to show it. Leah then used both feminine and masculine pronouns interchangeably. Blaze also let her hair grow out.
As she got a bit older, she noticed that she was often put down and even harassed by her peers and teachers. Blaze then requested to be put in another school, and her mother put that into action. At her new school, Blaze put on the act of being a tomboy, and barely no one questioned it.
Then, one summer, Leah became fatally ill from cancer (she wasn't diagnosed with cancer until it was too late). Blaze was at her side all the time, trying her best to keep the only person to fully accept who she really was. A month later, Leah died.
Blaze was later taken into custody by her mother's sister, Aunt Bess, who was very strict, formal, and forceful. Bess was a devout Christian and disliked her sister's ways of thinking, and because of this, she was intent on making Blaze more feminine. Living with Bess made Blaze rebellious, sarcastic, and stubborn, and at age 9, she had had enough, and ran away.
After almost a year of living on the streets, eventually ending up in a town somewhere in South Carolina, Blaze was found by a satyr, who had actually found her by accident. He was undercover for a school in the area, and he hadn't found any demigods there until he found Blaze sneaking into the school to get free food. She was nearly caught by the school, but the satyr was there to back her up and take the blame. He then took Blaze to Camp Half-Blood, despite her young age, but she was already starting to attract monsters by then.
At camp, Blaze took again the fake identity of being a boyish girl, fearing that no one would accept her in this new world of gods and monsters. But she started to enjoy this camp, as it was more colorful and different from the mortal world. One day, when people were more accepting, she might reveal it. Until then, she'll live.
